You say a lie often enough, it becomes the truth.
How many people can relate to that statement? Spencer and I just saw a production of "The Crucible" and I realized how ageless that phrase actually is. It was amazing and sad to see how one bitter young girl with an agenda was able to take down a whole community... with... one... lie. Everyone was unwilling to question the source. Someone so young and innocent had no reason to lie so it must be true. She also had a very convincing act. Except she had every reason to lie (she was having an affair with a married man so she accused his wife of witchcraft). Even when her friend Mary tried to tell everyone about the lie and come clean herself, the lie just got bigger. Abigail discovered the power she had and liked it. She wasn't going to let Mary (or anyone) take that away if she could help it. Her name and credibility were now on the line so she did what most humans do when they are caught in a lie - make the lie bigger and, in her case, start accusing others. And it worked.
Can you say Al Gore.

gotta start somewhere
How do you actually start a blog? I guess we will find out together. More importantly, WHY start a blog? I am sure everyone has a different reason but I imagine it usually has something to do with the need or desire to share one's thoughts, sometimes organized but most likely very random.
For me, the reasoning is very similar but I am targeting a very small audience - my kids. I don't expect to ever tell anyone about this blog except them... or maybe just leave a link for it that would be discovered only in the event of my untimely demise. Just feeling like I need to make sure I leave my kids a place to go to for some eternal "Mom"isms since I am sooooo sure that they are hearing me now (on a daily, sometimes hourly, basis I might add) but probably not really listening (as most kids do :). It might even be a very vain attempt to immortalize myself but again, I am only doing it for my kids so how vain can that really be? I just love them so much and want to share so much with them. Doesn't every loving parent?
Hoping that the written word will last a little longer than the daily "lectures". Also hoping that my posts will help them be grateful in the most desperate of times, assist them when the path may not be so clear, to remember that usually, there isn't one right answer and to always remember to love. We will see.
Who knows, it may end up being a place for me to post my own worthwhile memories that I am sometimes feaful of forgetting. That growing old thing has caught me off guard.
Apparently, rambling is one way to start a blog.
